Extractions and Wisdom Teeth Removal

Extractions ToowoombaDespite our best efforts, there are times when a tooth extraction is necessary. If a tooth is severely decayed and can’t be restored, including by means of a root canal treatment, an extraction may be the best option. Extractions may also be in order in the case of impacted wisdom teeth or advanced gum disease.

We can determine if your tooth can be saved or requires an extraction. Rest assured that if an extraction is necessary we will discuss the options, and will try to make you as comfortable as possible during the procedure.

We believe in a conservative approach to dental care. The caring, experienced team at Apollonia House Dental understands that it’s vital to keep your natural teeth in any possible situation. Thanks to our in-house endodontic services, we are usually able to provide root canal treatments without referring you to another practice. This process saves your natural tooth while limiting out of pocket expenses on your overall oral health care needs.

Keeping You Comfortable

We’ll make a thorough assessment of the tooth that is to be removed to establish the simplest, quickest way to do so. We have inhalation sedation (happy gas) available if preferred to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction

With wisdom teeth, we’ll usually refer you to have a full mouth X-ray and/or CAT-scan taken. We’ll examine these images to ascertain whether the extraction should be performed in hospital, or whether it would best be referred to one of our trusted oral surgeon colleagues.

Our team can also discuss sedation methods with you to ensure adequate pain management and comfort during the procedure. These methods include inhalation sedation (happy gas), IV sedation or a full general anaesthetic. We are happy to answer any questions you may have along the way.

The extraction process can take between one to two hours to complete, depending on how many wisdom teeth require removal as well as the complexity of the case. Stitches may be placed to re-seal the gum and antibiotics and/or pain killers may also be prescribed. Our team will then monitor your progress following the procedure.
